My favorite time of the year, Spring…. doesn’t quite feel like it since I woke up to it being close to freezing. Another thing to get used to living just 4.5 hours north— colder weather and the loss of my favorite thing during my favorite time of the year. The Mountain Laurels blooming! I’m wondering if it will even feel like spring if I don’t have my beloved Mountain Laurel trees. They are in full bloom right now and will probably end in about a week or two. South Texas gets 3-4 weeks of their fragrant floral scent, then gone until the next year.

When I drove away for my move, the trees were just beginning to bud. The day before I had gone right up to them to see if I could get any scent… but nope, no luck. In my old neighborhood, along my jogging path, I would pass at least 15 trees. It was magnificent jogging past as the scent lingers in the air by them.

For me they announce new beginnings, time to start training for Beach to Bay, spring time, happiness… That one tree with its floral scent was my absolute FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR.

Hubby knows how much I’ll miss it, so he went to the nursery and purchased a “baby Mountain Laurel”— less than 2 ft tall. It wasn’t budding like the ones in SA. It’s still in the plastic container they come in, but hubby promised to plant it this week. Maybe I’ll get a ‘late’ present, even if I have to press my nose to it. 😂 And I’m really not joking about that.

The reason I haven’t been posting. Moving is more work than I thought it would be.

Shelves are empty, books packed up. Tonight will be my last sleep in my home.🥺 It is such a weird experience— feeling conflicting emotions, both extremely sad and excited at the same time is odd.

This beast of a shelf will not be traveling with me. The mover suggested either taking apart or leaving. The shelf would probably not make it down and up stairs. It’s so heavy it will tilt, turning the boxes into diamonds. The new homeowner will be able to maybe, hopefully, be able to begin their own library.

Which means… new shelves for me! 😊
On the road tomorrow with a car full of stuff and a dog and cat!! The dog does not like the car and the cat has never been anywhere except our home. Wish me luck with those two!! 🐶🐱

🐂 National Texas Day 🐂 A day for Texas?!?! I guess it was inevitable with the way Texans love Texas. 😂 I know TX gets a bad rap… our politics are atrocious. Thank you gerrymandering! But as a blue dot 🔵 living here, I still love my state.

I’m a Texas gal born and raised, so all my books are set in Texas. Say what you will about TX, but it does have some wonderful qualities— from the food to the cultures to the people… it’s home. Every city has its own personality. The landscape is insanely diverse— from desert to swampland and everything in between.

Do we have work to do here? Absolutely! But I’m hoping the tides are beginning to shift. Voices are speaking louder. The urgency is recognized.

But if you’re like me and need a distraction from the heaviness of everything, and angsty romance is your flavor, I would love for you to pick up one of my books!

✨ANNOUNCEMENT✨ I’ve been a little MIA since the New Year… but there is very good reason. The next couple of months will be a whirlwind and I’m going to try and keep up as best as I can.

1 - I’m moving! My husband has been relocated. We are packing up our lives in San Antonio and moving north to the DFW area. Still in Texas😉, but 4 1/2 hours up.

Some may think, ‘what’s the big deal’? And it may not be for some, but for me, it is a very big deal. I came to San Antonio to attend college and never left. I’m about to age myself when I say, I have lived here over 30 years!! SA may not be the city I’m “from”, but it has been the city I have lived in the longest by far.

I have a love story with my city! Most San Antonians do. It is the 7th largest city in the U.S., but it strangely has a small town feel. The culture, the food, the festivals, the ambiance… are all things that make this city incredible.

But more importantly, my family and friends. I’ve known about our move for about 6 months, but it seemed so far away that it didn’t feel real. Now that the move is just around the corner, it is hitting me. I have lived in the same city as my sister since she moved here to attend grad school (almost 30 years ago). My parents moved here 19 years ago to be closer to my daughter when she was born. My friends that I consider family and have been in my life for close to 30 years.

Lately, my heart has begun racing when I think about how far away I’m going to be from my dad and sister.

✨Ins & Outs 🚫 2026 Edition… I’m jumping on the trend! Which is probably something I need to stop doing. Following all the trends, but… that’s what social media likes.

My ‘ins & outs’ have a great deal to do with my inherent personality. I’m an over thinker, worrier, introvert. I know this, but still I will fall into the doomsday, worst case scenario thoughts. These will be the hardest to work on because it’s my inherent way of processing, but I’ve noticed recently that it causes me too much stress. And too much stress is never good.

BTW… did you catch my last ‘in’?? I’m keeping a secret! Will be announcing tomorrow, so stay tuned.

✨Word of the Year ✨ I have chosen a word of the year for the past several years. Each year, just like resolutions, I start off strong. Walking day by day with confidence (and if I’m honest a bit smug) at how “well” I’m doing. A hint of superiority when others talk about how they already “fell off the bandwagon”. With a new planner in hand, all my goals, dreams, and habits are perfectly written.

But come February, the excitement wanes and life settles. The stressors of life begin building and soon, each of my “resolutions” or thoughts of my word dissipate into thin air.

What is it that has me so full of “I can do this” mentality at the end of December to “eh, maybe” in February? This year I’m reflecting on my behavior. I’m not choosing to ignore past patterns. I’m bringing them front and center, blasting them with a spotlight.

What did I come up with? A diagnosis I just learned about myself. Those 4 little letters that have gained so much attention lately— ADHD. The new year resolution was the “sparkly new thing” I could obsess over. But just like every other hobby I began and never finished, a resolution and word never stood a chance.

So why did I choose one this year? Because now that I know I want to try again with my new knowledge. And I chose a word that I felt encompassed everything I need. I wanted a word that would comprise focus and courage. These words are words I didn’t feel like I accomplished in past years, so I want another go round.

✨Word of the Year ✨ I have chosen a word of the year for the past several years. Each year, just like resolutions, I start off strong. Walking day by day with confidence (and if I’m honest a bit smug) at how “well” I’m doing. A hint of superiority when others talk about how they already “fell off the bandwagon”. With a new planner in hand, all my goals, dreams, and habits are perfectly written.

But come February, the excitement wanes and life settles. The stressors of life begin building and soon, each of my “resolutions” or thoughts of my word dissipate into thin air.

What is it that has me so full of “I can do this” mentality at the end of December to “eh, maybe” in February? This year I’m reflecting on my behavior. I’m not choosing to ignore past patterns. I’m bringing them front and center, blasting them with a spotlight.

What did I come up with? A diagnosis I just learned about myself. Those 4 little letters that have gained so much attention lately— ADHD. The new year resolution was the “sparkly new thing” I could obsess over. But just like every other hobby I began and never finished, a resolution and word never stood a chance.

So why did I choose one this year? Because now that I know I want to try again with my new knowledge. And I chose a word that I felt encompassed everything I need. I wanted a word that would comprise focus and courage. These words are words I didn’t feel like I accomplished in past years, so I want another go round.
