On the road again… Back to Oklahoma to pack up my daughter to come home for the summer! How is it that a whole school year has passed us by?!?! But I made it! I survived my daughter’s first year in college. I’m going to admit there were many sleepless nights in the beginning always wondering if she was safe. Missing her around the house. But as time went by, it became our new normal.

Anyways, I spent time this past week handwriting a scene so I’m typing it up now. And the story is continuing!!

I’m going to be doing my VERY FIRST BOOK SIGNING!!! I’m so excited and nervous. This is a book fair & signing for Hebbronville authors or authors who have written about our small hometown. Some of my nerves are coming from the fact that I will be the ONLY ROMANCE author in attendance. There are many history, historical fiction, poets, and non-fiction authors. I’m nervous about my ‘man covers’ displayed on my table.🔥 LOL. But women love romance right?!?! 😉

ALL MY SOUTH TEXAS GALS, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU HERE!!

Did you know that I’m originally a small town girl? That’s right. I spent my formative years in a town where everyone knew each other. It was a treat when we went to the “city”, Laredo or Corpus Christi. My town did not have and still does not have a mall, movies, or bowling alley. We spent or time “cruising” up and down the main highway of the town. Yes, I was driving on my own with friends in the car at 12 years old.

From small town to city… I think I could thrive in either. And don’t ask me which I prefer because my answer is sure to change on the time of year, week, or mood.

📝What is my Writing Style📝 Plotter or pantser or a little of both?? I heavily lean towards Pantser. That’s not saying that I go into a story completely blind, because I have some sense of the story. I usually have “big” scenes that happen beginning, middle and end. Then I just jump in and see where the characters take me.

Is it a little stressful? Sometimes. Especially when the characters take a left turn unexpectedly. Or a right. Or they go straight when they were supposed to take a left. You get the picture. 🤣

Does the story stay true to my original vision? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The story as a whole will always have the feeling I had when it originally came to mind, but the way they got to the HEA sometimes is a little different.

Take Damian & Cici’s story… This weekend I spent time writing a scene that I didn’t envision and replaced one that I had thought was going in. As the characters evolve and become who they are, they take over and the dialogue and scenes follow them.

🌸Which romance heroine do you align with most? 🌸 I most identify with Sophia from Naive in Love. It’s no surprise since I wrote it from my perspective. The story was picked from my life and retold, things changed, and some fabricated. But I was always the heroine in the story.

Since then, I have written stronger females I admire. Characteristics I wish would come more easily to me, but I struggle with even as an adult. My inherent introverted personality is very dominant.

Doing my civic duty…. I’m sitting in the jury pool today waiting to see if I get chosen for a jury panel. A fold out table, comfy chair, and coffee and I’m set.

I wonder if the 2 ladies sitting on either side of me working will get curious and take a peek at what I’m writing??? Or if the people sitting in the lines of chairs behind me are reading over my shoulder??? Gotta keep the scenes I’m doing while I’m here PG rated! 😉😆🤣

🌧🧊What’s your mindset? 🧊🌧Are you a half empty or a half full kind of thinker? Springtime in Texas can be beautiful, but it can also be catastrophic. That was last Monday for us. The weather was beautiful, but in the course of about an hour of me arriving home after work, a rain cell came through and we were inundated with hail for about 15 minutes.

Now, I’m going to admit that I’m the half empty, dooms day thinker. I worry, then worry some more. I make myself anxious over things that haven’t happened, that I can very clearly see COULD happen. My mind will create every ‘bad’ scenario and see so many roadblocks.

“Cognitive distortions are inaccurate or irrational thought patterns that can lead to negative emotions and behaviors. They are common in mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.” This is me. I was at a counselor Self-Care training in December and had an a-ha moment. The presenter discussed this mindset and instantly knew it was me. There was no denying it. She then discussed cognitive reappraisal, which is an emotion regulation strategy where you reframe or reinterpret a situation to change its emotional impact.

Books and coffee shops… a great combination! 📚☕️ When I was visiting my daughter back in January I visited this coffee shop while she was in class to write and of course get my daily fix of caffeine! It was cozy, the coffee was great and service was wonderful. And the cherry on top??? A little library filled with books!! I can’t wait to go back and drop off a book (or couple) of mine.😉

Big or small, AI is affecting all creators. Our work is being used to help a trillion dollar company make more profits. These big companies are forgoing legal and ethical standards for greed. Plain and simple. They wanted to spend the least amount as possible and wanted the works as fast as possible.

The engineers knew they were working in a severely grey area, but they did not seem to care. Court documents which were released unreacted show they admitted this in internal discussions. For these engineers, the humans behind these works were not important to them— ”and would have best context for what sort of appetite the org has for asking for forgiveness, not
permission”. It all comes down to POWER & GREED.

I searched the database and found 4 of my books on the site META used to train its AI model. The case is Kadrey et al. v. Meta Platforms. Yes, I saw one post about it this morning and I fell down the rabbit hole. Technology is advancing far quicker than the laws and regulations. We can’t trust that people will be ethical. Before our very eyes we see the destruction of anything standing in the way of power. The current state of the country has shown, power is a “high” that many people can not handle appropriately.

❤️ A Love Story~ 20 years ❤️ This year we celebrated in a cozy cabin in Hochatown, OK. Hubby got to fish while I spent time writing. I never would have thought I would “hike” with my laptop, but that’s what I did. Trekked behind hubby as he searched for a good fishing spot. Then I would find a cozy, shaded area and sit with my computer and start typing.

These are the things that love stories are made of. Finding a way to incorporate passions of two different people. Sharing a piece of our hobbies with the other. Just like hubby will stroll bookstores with me, I’ll hike with a laptop to sit with the serene nature sounds as my characters continue to tell their story.

🌸 Spring Break 🌸 I’m on the road…. Off to see the kid in OK. Fun fact, I had never been to OK in my life until we took my daughter to tour OU the summer before her senior year. And now, now it seems I’m there so very often. This is my 2nd trip in 2025!

We are spending a couple of days with the kid, then heading to a lake cabin for another couple of days to relax and recharge. ☺️

I’m currently working on Damian & Cici’s story. I had an alpha reader to go over what I have and there are some changes I need to make. Time line is tricky since I’m following the timeline of 2 other books. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did this to myself (or more precisely, Damian did it to me!! He had to go and get smitten during their shared trauma.) and that story is stuck in my head. Now to unravel and weave again. 😉
